It is rare to see the bighorn sheep, but the two times I have seen them was in East Zion East of the tunnel. You want to go out for a drive a couple hours before dusk, as the animals usually are not out in broad daylight. If you have no winter driving experience, do not drive up that hill if there is ice or snow present. That point is at the base of a steep hill. I do suggest you drive up that road to the point where they stop plowing the road. There are not that many elk in the park, but as Wininzion said, they can be seen along the Kolob Terrace road. We have been just feet from several of them, because they are quite tame in the main canyon. There is mule deer by the hundreds in Zion NP. You are just as likely to see a deer on highway 9 drivinh in to Springdale as you are inside the park. There's no one place to go in the park to see them. Deer are elusive, shy away from humans, and move around the area freely. Go to the official park website for more information about hiking in ZionĤ. Popular hikes are Riverside Wslk, Angels Landing, Canyon Overlook, Observation Point. Howevwr, the wise traveler would be sure that the vehicle they are driving is in good mechanical condition before undertaking a road trip.ģ. Period.Ģ.Since we don't know what kind of car you will be driving, no one on the forum can tell you what preparations you need to make to avoid engine problems. Additionally, if road conditions are bad enough to require chains and if you have no experience driving in winter conditions, you shouldn't be on the roads. You won't need chains for your vehicle to the road in the park.
